TENTATIVE PROGRAM, Rooms 170 & 180

8:00 am: Community Partner Open House ~ Registration ~ Continental Breakfast & Registration


8:30-8:45: Introduction & Welcome: Decoding Dyslexia Maryland, Winifred Winston, State Leader


9:00-9:15: Maryland Education 2020, Delegate Eric Luedtke, Chair, House Education Subcommittee, House Democratic Majority Leader (invited)


9:15-10:15: Literacy for All: Implementing Strong Screening, Instruction and Interventions for Reading, Sarah Sayko, Deputy Director, National Center on Improving Literacy


Breakout Session Topics (morning and afternoon) -- order of sessions TBD. Sessions will be presented by experts from the National Center on Improving Literacy.


There will be separate breakouts for parents/students and local school system personnel.

  • Evidence Aligned Instruction and Intervention to Support Literacy Development, (NCIL)

2:30-4:00: Legislative Open House: Cupcakes, Coffee & Conversation & at 3:00 pm join us to honor Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, Friend of Dyslexia Recognition (invited)

  • Write your story and bring it with you: Examples


  • Youth Session: Be sure to bring your students! Educators and parents: There is a session designed for student advocacy from 10:30-11:30 am. The kids can learn to advocate in a safe, facilitated environment and get to know their peers. Excellent for all ages and for high school students it may fulfill volunteer and/or community involvement requirements.




Parking & Security

Public Buildings Map and Parking Options -- If you park at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium to take the shuttle, the cost is $4 round trip and $5 to access the parking lot at the stadium. The shuttle requires exact change in cash. Leave at least 30 minutes to park, catch the trolley and ride to the House Office Building. There are also a number of parking garages within walking distance to the House Office Building and Gott's Parking Garage is the closest on Taylor Avenue.

All attendees must pass through building security and should allow about 10 minutes (or more) depending on the line to get in the building. Please have a photo identification ready. The entrance to House Office Building is on the side of the building on Bladen Street, middle door and there is no parking on Bladen Street.
