Frame Your Fited Instruction to Increase Rigor & Critical Thinking
Megan Ginther & Holly Mueller will lead participants through aspects of literacy contracts as a way to enrich and challenge gifted students in a variety of settings. Literacy contracts incorporate a theme topic, read-aloud, concept map and essential questions, book and discussion groups independent reading, presenting, and writing and technology projects. Structuring curriculum around theme topics such as empathy and diversity, fear and courage, and social injustice and responsibility encourages critical thinking, builds background knowledge and vocabulary, and connects gifted students to the larger community and world. A variety of book recommendations, ways to incorpate technology, and social action projects will also be discuessed. Participants will have opportunities to brainstorm, ask questions, and reflect.
