What My Mother And I Don't Talk About: Fifteen Writers Break the Silence, ed. Michele Filgate

“Our mothers are our first homes,” Michele Filgate writes, “and that’s why we’re always trying to return to them.” What My Mother and I Don’t Talk About began when Filgate published an essay about what she and her mother had struggled to talk about: the fact that her stepfather had abused her. After Filgate’s story touched a chord with readers, she gathered leading contemporary writers to reflect on their own, complicated relationships with their mothers, relationships involving everything from silence, pain, and grief to joy and laughter. For LitClub, Prof. Walsh will select four of the essays for participants to read together.

Note: Please sign up for only one LitClub so that as many people can enjoy these as possible, but feel free to sign up for a LitClub at either campus
