We look forward to seeing you at the LIT Startup Awards 2018. If you havent already registered please do join us for a lovely long lunch on Monday 18th June from 12 to 2:15pm.

We have an update below on the startups we have worked with this year as well as introducing our Key Note Speaker on the day, David Evans MBE, founder of Grassroots Group and Matildas Planet and the first person to receive an MBE for CSR in the Uk.

At the event you will have the opportunity to 'Meet the Founders' who have just completed the LIT New Frontiers programme - the Enterprise Ireland National Entrepreneur Development Programme for early stage high potential startups as well as the whole team!

We have some incredible startups this year across our programmes. Some are seeking funding, others are looking for your advice or to leverage connections that you might have in your network. This year’s awards is a celebration of the local startup ecosystem with global potential! Let us gather, support and celebrate the work that these businesses have done this year.

(note that there is no clamping on the day but please do park in parking spots and not in restricted areas)

New Frontiers

LIT run the National Entrepreneur Development Programme for Enterprise Ireland called New Frontiers at its Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre. This is the national programme for the development of High Potential Startups (HPSU). A HPSU on average creates high value jobs, 10+ within 3 years and turning over €1m in an international marketplace. These are typically manufacturing or internationally-traded services business OR a new domestically-traded service business with the potential to trade internationally.  In addition to working with Enterprise Ireland, LIT are proud to collaborate with the University of Limerick Nexus on New Frontiers

Key Note Speaker:

David Evans MBE

David Evans founded the Grass Roots company at the age of 32. A graduate in economics and an MBA, his previous entrepreneurial involvements included the diverse experiences of international and national advertising and running a factory.

His brain child Grass Roots has become a global business with billings in excess of $1 billion.
With offices from Beijing to Brazil, Grass Roots employs over 1,000 people around the globe, in 15 countries. The Grass Roots Group serves more than 50% of the world’s best known brands and more than 30% of the FTSE 250.

The steady success of this enterprise has enabled David to create services that are not only profitable but which serve a societal good. He has pioneered the understanding of disability and diversity in the UK and improving the provision of child care for working parents. His community work is extensive and includes numerous charities, local arts, sports and schools.

Grass Roots has been noted for the regular inclusion the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list since 2007 and in the Top 100 mid-sized companies list. Grass Roots Group was sold for $120m in 2016.

In 2008 David was the first person to be awarded an MBE for Corporate Social Responsibility.

About LIT

LIT has developed its capacity and presence as a leader in third-level enterprise supports to maximum potential, with five core incubation and acceleration centres fully operational and in support of 2 additional community enterprise centres. 7 in total. These centres are run in partnership with e.g. Enterprise Ireland, the new Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs), Chambers of Commerce, community development agencies and local authorities and are named as follows: The Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre, main campus, Limerick; LIT Innovation Hub (LEDP); Thurles Chamber Enterprise Centre, LIT Thurles campus; Croom Community Enterprise Centre, Croom, Co Limerick l The Red Door BIC, Newcastle West, Co Limerick; Quȩstum, Clonmel; International Fashion Incubator (IFIL), Limerick City centre.

LIT run a number of Enterpreneur Development Programmes as well as two seed funds in support of innovation and startups in the region. The Enterprise Ladder Fund and the Dr. Tony Ryan Entrepreneurship Fund are offering much needed early stage funding for the startups on the LIT incubation programmes and in our centres across Limerick and Tipperary. 

New Frontiers is Enterprise Ireland’s national entrepreneur development programme for innovative, early-stage startups. It is a three-phased programme with LIT, in collaboration with UL Nexus, running the New Frontiers programme on LIT's Moylish campus at the Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre. 

The New Frontiers Entrepreneur Development Programme is targeted at entrepreneurs and early stage start-up companies located across Ireland. The programme is open to applications from a diversity of sectors including; food & consumer products, information & communication technology, engineering & electronics, medical devices, biotechnology, pharma, digital media, cleantech/renewable energy and eligible internationally traded services.
