About this event

Pope Francis is calling all people of good will to hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

Heart to Heart is supporting people to be powerful listeners and agents of healing through developing skills rooted in Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication.

More on this 90-minute workshop:

For more than thirty years Heart to Heart and its parent organization, Comienzos, have been listening to the cries of the poor and supporting leadership and skills development among incarcerated people, parents, faith community leaders, high school and college faculty, and students, police leadership and others. We’ve identified four essential skills, the MEDC (pronounced medic) skills of:

 Mindfulness

 Empathy

 Decision making

 Conflict Transformation

These skills, rooted in Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication, are essential in helping us hear and respond to the cries of the earth and to resolve the seemingly intractable divisions in our society. We will draw on Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si: On Care for our Common Home, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication, and one another to support during this interactive workshop. Heart to Heart Trainer and Board Director Steve Tumolo will weave together a compassionate vision of healing the earth, ourselves and one another. Part of this vision is cultivating what Pope Francis calls an “ecological conversion,” a growing sense of awareness of our oneness with all of life and willingness to act and rest from action.
