Listening to Nature Part 1: Introduction to Field Recording
This class allows us to take a deep journey into the wonderful sounds of nature. Through observing, engaging, and active listening, we connect to the natural world in new and unique ways. The focus of this class is to immerse ourselves in the vast array of sounds in the wild, increasing our abilities for active listening and capturing some of these amazing sounds with field recording devices. This class serves as an introduction for those just getting started with field recording and prepares students for the next class in this sequence (Listening to Nature Part 2: Integrating Field Recordings).
Students will learn about stereo microphone techniques, gain structure, wind protection, filtering out low frequencies, and optimizing field recording devices for pristine field recordings.
This class is customized to the needs of the students. Some of the core topics include:
1. Stereo recording techniques
2. Recording with proper levels, and how to optimize recording equipment in the field.
Field Recording Location: Redwood Regional Park, Redwood Regional Road (Parking Location #3 after entrance to the park)
