*LISTENING TO DUTCH KILLS* WALKING TOUR
Event Information
Description
Celebrate CITY OF WATER DAY by Listening to Dutch Kills!
Hosted by Green Shores NYC, SWIM Coalition and Chance Ecologies
Tour begins at 10am at LIC Roots Garden and ends at Smiling Hogshead Ranch. Apporoximate tour duration is one hour.
Listening to Dutch Kills is an immersive audio walk that guides participants around the waters of the Dutch Kills tributary of Newtown Creek (in Long Island City, Queens) to investigate and experience the species and ecologies hidden in this urban industrial landscape.
Listeners will engage with this complex watershed through a series of creative sound pieces, prompts, and narrations by local artists and community stakeholders, encountering the body of water from the perspectives of the flora and fauna that thrive along its banks, and contemplating how these species are connected to the future of New York City as it faces the challenges of sea level rise and climate change.
Listening to Dutch Kills was created by Chance Ecologies as part of the Getting to Zero in Dutch Kills initiative.
All participants MUST consent to and sign a participation waiver to participate.
Tour requires download of audio file and use of personal headphones and mp3 player (smartphone, tablet, etc.)
Rain cancels the event. Please bring water and snacks; dress for warm summer weather and wear comfortable shoes. Restrooms are only available at the end of the tour.
RSVP is required.
