Linguistic and Other Cultural Exchanges across Brazilian History: The Indig...

This workshop brings together linguists, anthropologists, and historians, working from different perspectives, for an interdisciplinary conversation on the situations surrounding indigenous people’s contacts and exchanges with others across Brazilian history. Among the presenters are historians working on nineteenth-century contacts among indigenous persons, African-Brazilians, and Luso-Brazilians; historical linguists examining language exchange and change over long durations; and anthropologists and linguists discussing contemporary linguistic change and cultural policy.
The workshop runs from 9:30am-5:00pm on Friday, October 28 and from 9:00am-4:00pm on Saturday, October 29. A full program is available at clas.uchicago.edu.
