Event description

Description

Named one of the 12 best live performances of the year by NPR in 2015, Lindsay Lou sound and songwriting intertwine her sturdy bluegrass roots with progressive Americana and folk. Her singing floats over the instrumental mastery and deep groove of her band with dynamics that range from a lullaby to a battle cry. In the words of David Grier, “Lindsay...sings the way you would want to if you could. Phrasing, tone, emotion, it's all there. Effortless seemingly. Simply mesmerizing. Riveting! Don't miss the musical force that is Lindsay Lou.”

Lindsay's brand new full-length "Southland" (April 2018) is a collection of songs examining the range of emotions and complex themes of our changing times; delivered with soulfully fierce intensity and tender intimacy that demands your attention. Backed by drums, bass, electric & acoustic guitars and mandolin, the sound is rich and expansive, and Lindsay's vocals & lyrics are captivating and hit deep. It’s a strong statement and a big step toward the sound of some of the great female voices in Roots/Rock like Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Cary Ann Hearst (Shovels & Rope) Gillian Welch, Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt.

At the same time that Lindsay was making her move to Nashville, Maya de Vitry of The Stray Birds was doing the same thing. So the two women settled into their new city together — wandering the neighborhoods, exploring the music venues and just generally finding their way. Out of that experience of displacement, not to mention a shared love of the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke and a desire to start co-writing more often, came the song "Shining In The Distance," which The Stray Birds performed last year at The Palms. You might get to hear Lindsay Lou's version at this show.
