Event description

Description

You are invited to the opening of "Liminal Space/Crossings" on January 19, 2017, at 5pm. Explore crossing and immigration at historic Ross Alley!

Join us at the opening of "Liminal Space/Crossings", a community-engaged public art project led by Bay Area artist, Summer Mei Ling Lee. The installation is based on Lee's year-long community-based research on Chinatown's history, uncovering stories of local residents in dialogue with her relationship to her Chinese immigrant grandmother. "Liminal Space" highlights immigration as an unfurling of processes that begins with a physical transverse of the Pacific Ocean, but is an event that casts reverberations of change for generations to come.

The project is presented by the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco and supported by the Chinatown Community Development Center. Major sponsors include California Arts Council, City and County of San Francisco, National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, and San Francisco Arts Commission.
