Turn the lights on for the holidays!
Area runners and walkers are invited to “turns the lights on” for Opportunity Village’s Festival of Trees celebration at the third annual Lights On 5K Run/Walk.
Registration is open for the Lights On 5K, scheduled to take place on Dec. 1 at 4:30 p.m. The run will start at The Other Place, 200 U.S. Highway 18, and follow streets throughout the Opportunity Village neighborhood in northwest Clear Lake. Participants are encouraged to dress in holiday lights and costumes.
The run is a benefit for Opportunity Village. All proceeds from registration and donations will buy Christmas gifts for individuals with disabilities supported through the Village. Last year, the event raised more than $3,400 to buy for 61 people who wouldn't otherwise have gifts under their tree.
Earlybird registration is available now through Nov. 11. Cost is $20 per person and includes a race t-shirt. The first 100 people to register online also will receive a free travel mug to use for hot chocolate or cider at the race after-party. After Nov. 11, registration cost increases to $25 per person and a t-shirt is not guaranteed. If temperatures fall below zero, the event will be canceled with no refunds.
Come for the run, stay for the Festival!
The Lights On 5K Run/Walk precedes Opportunity Village’s 21st annual Festival of Trees. Held Dec. 2-4, the festivalfeatures more than 100 decorated trees, wreaths, and swags on display and for sale. The fundraiser event kicks off with Opening Night on Friday, Dec. 2; Breakfast With Santa and family activities on Saturday, Dec. 3; and the Cookie Walk on Sunday, Dec. 4. Proceeds from the Festival support individuals with disabilities receiving services from Opportunity Village.
More information on the 2016 event will be available soon!
