Description

Join Tom Hopkin's for this two-day workshop which will be a combination of hands on and classroom lecture. We will cover essential lighting skills and equipment to build and implement your own lighting plan in the studio.

Every student will be able to take home the images and plan they create, so please bring a spare SD, Compact Flash or XQD card to load your images onto. You may bring a lunch and eat in the classroom or choose from the local restaurants available. Students are encouraged to bring a camera and lens with a focal length between 70-200mm. Our main tethered camera will be the New Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless digital.

Day 1 (9am - 4pm)

9am - 12:30pm

  • Meeting the students,Model and assistant
  • Lighting examples and possibilities
  • Studio Lights, power, flash duration and usage
  • Metering the light using a Sekonic Light Meter
  • Light Ratios and how and why they are used
  • Foundations for your expensive lights, get it right
  • Posing fundamentals.
  • Creating a plan

12:30pm - 1pm - Lunch

1pm-4pm

  • Live photo shooting with the students.

Day 2 (Noon - 4pm)

  • Previous day overview
  • Speedlights in the studio
  • High Power Battery Pack Lighting
  • Speedlight Modifiers
  • Speedlight Bracket essentials
  • Single speedlight possibilities
  • Multiple speedlight setups
  • Outside lighting setups (weather permitting )
  • Balancing ambient and flash lighting
  • Colorchecker Passport (Outside)
  • Back in the studio to calibrate the monitor
  • 4pm conclusion of the class.
