Take a deep dive into the latest energy efficiency lighting and controls technologies
When facilities make smart choices with lighting and lighting controls equipment, they experience multiple benefits including energy savings, better light quality, and improved comfort. APS and the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) are offering this in-depth training on lighting and controls as part of our 2017 Energy Efficiency Technical Training series. Join us for insights into the latest advancements in lighting and lighting controls, from stand-alone systems to lighting management systems that use existing Wi-Fi networks. In addition, there will be a live dimming demonstration with real-time energy monitoring to show savings.
This full-day training will cover the following topics:
The basics: Examine the principals of lighting and lighting strategies
Equipment: Exploreemerging technologies, dimming LEDs and other types of luminaries
Technical specifications: Learn about stand-alone lighting control systems and whole-building lighting management systems
Optimization & efficiency: Understand daylight harvesting concepts and the energy-saving impact of dimming
Rebates: Review rebates related to lighting and lighting controls offered by APS
Who should attend
This class is designed for plant managers, facility operators, public works managers and contractors. Attendees will receive a certificate upon class completion that can be used for CEU credit.

Karl Justin, CEM, CLEP, CDSM is Principal Partner with ECS Arizona, a company specializing in commissioning and programming new lighting and lighting control technologies. He has more than 30 years of experience implementing energy efficiency lighting strategies. Mr. Justin holds an Arizona Electrical Contractor’s license and is certified for various lighting controls. He is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) and Certified Demand-Side Management Professional (CDSM). He is a member of AEE as well as the local U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) chapter.
Angela Pilant, LC, MIES is a Lighting Specialist with Evergreen Consulting Group and has 19 years of experience in the electrical and energy industry. She has worked for Portland General Electric (PGE) managing lighting rebate programs and coordinating with large commercial and industrial customers to deliver kWh savings through efficient lighting design and controls. Ms. Pilant also has experience as a manufacturer’s representative working with electrical distributors and contractors, assisting with design-build projects, LEED process/documentation support, energy code compliance, emergency egress lighting and exterior lighting.
Ms. Pilant is LC (Lighting Certified) by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) and is a certified lighting trainer for the Building Operator Certification (BOC). In addition, she is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (MIES).
Micah Rose is a Lighting Specialist with Evergreen Consulting Group and has 20 years of experience in the electrical and energy industry. He has worked as an electrician, estimator and project manager in the electrical field for 15 years. For the last five years, he has specialized in energy efficiency programs. As a lighting specialist, he works directly with utilities, contractors and end-use customers to assist with commercial and industrial lighting projects. Mr. Rose is LC certified by the NCQLP and holds active electrical licenses in both Oregon and Washington.
