ABOUT THE EVENT
Join us on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at 11 p.m. for Light the Torch: Kent, a free Olympic late night student event at the Kent State Ice Arena.
Grab your friends, pick your country and enjoy open skating as you watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Sochi, Russia. You can also sample foods from different countries throughout the night.
Get into the Olympic spirit by participating in one of five Olympic Events. Go for the gold by competing in speed skating, tug of war, ice smash, curling or a frozen t-shirt contest.
Finally, watch our Olympic Ice Carver transform a block of ice into an Olympic-themed sculpture. You might even get your very own frozen souvenir to take home!
Registration is easy! Select your favorite country to join that team. You may also choose to register for one of five Olympic Events. Note: you do not have to register/participate in the Olympic events. Come dressed in your country's colors and cheer on your team to victory... everyone on the winning team will receive a prize at the end of the night!
ABOUT THE OLYMPIC EVENTS
Five Olympic Events will be held throughout the night. Participation in each event is optional, and pre-registration is required. Space is limited for certain events.
Speed Skating: Test your ice skating skills by competing in speed skating, just like the Olympics. Are you the fastest skater at Kent State?
Tug of War: It’s tug of war like you’ve never seen it before: on ice. Is your country stronger than the rest?
Ice Smash: Shoot styrofoam balls across the ice to get as many of them as possible on your opponent's side. After two minutes whichever country has the least amount on their side will win.
Curling: How good is your aim? Use hockey pucks as throwing stones, and try to land closest to the center of the circle, while knocking your opponent's puck out of the ring.
Frozen T-Shirt Contest: Break, rip and tear apart a frozen T-Shirt until you can successfully get it on. Be the first to put it on and score big for your country.
