Event description

Description

The Light Hustler storytelling workshop teaches the techniques and format we use at the monthly Light Hustler storytelling show, which has been an LA Weekly pick of the week and has been playing to standing room only crowds for the past two years.

The live show features five comedians (who have performed on show like The Tonight Show, networks like Comedy Central and more) all telling funny stories about overcoming their darker experiences. The concept is based around studies which show that writing and sharing about complicated issues is healing not only for the performer but also for the audience.

The workshop is led by Light Hustler show creator and New York Times bestselling author Anna David along with Improv, Comedy Store and Laugh Factory performer Ally Weinhold. Over the course of four hours, we walk students through the process of coming up with and writing their stories for the stage.

Those who want to perform in the Light Hustler show can sign up for day two, where we work on memorization and practice. All students who participate in the second day will perform in the show and receive video footage of their performances.

ALL PARTICIPANTS (AND THEIR FRIENDS) ARE INVITED TO OUR SHOW WHICH TAKES PLACE THE NIGHT BEFORE, ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 23RD, AT OPEN SPACE CAFE (457 N. FAIRFAX AVE., 8 PM, FREE!)
