Description

1st Annual Lift in the Pines

FirstHealth Fitness Pinehurst

Powerlifting Contest

Contest will begin with the Back Squat with all participants completing the movement. We will then move on to the Bench Press, then on to the Deadlift. Athletes will be given 6 min to complete their lifts with the highest counting for score. Once the athlete has begun, they will complete the lift without direction from the judge. The judge will respond with no rep or rep completed. The judge will document same to be initialed by athlete after the movement is completed. Movement standards will be briefed to Judge and participant prior to contest. Each movement should be completed in a total of 6 Min. There will be a 1-minute break between movements. Judges will help adjust the rack and weights prior to the lift. Athletes will be called prior to their heat and placed on standby. This will be their call to warm up. Athletes will have full use of the facility to warm up as they see fit. Dedicated warm up stations will be in place.

There will be a male and a female winner for this contest. The score will be based on the Wilks Coefficient.

What is Wilks? The Wilks Calculator is used to compare the relative strength level of a given lift. It can be used independently of different weights of lifters to give a fair indication or relative strength.

Movements

Back Squat

  • Rep starts with barbell on back (high or low)
  • Hip crease must come parallel to the knee or below
  • Rep is complete when the hip is at full extension in top position and knees are straight
  • Belt and knee wraps are allowed
  • Spotters are allowed but must not assist in any way until lift is completed or failure is imminent
  • If no spotter, then bailing weight is allowed but must notify judge before lift that no spotter will be used (judge will not spot)


Bench

  • The lifter must lie on his/her back with shoulders and buttocks in contact with the flat bench surface.
  • The lifter’s hands may grip the bar with a “thumbs around” grip. Note: The use of the "reverse grip" or a thumb-less grip on the bench is strictly prohibited.
  • The lifter’s shoes must be in contact with the floor. This position shall be maintained throughout the attempt.
  • The head may rise off the bench or move during the performance of the lift.
  • To achieve firm footing, the lifter may use flat surfaced bumper plates to build up the surface of the platform.
  • After receiving the bar at arm’s length, the lifter shall lower the bar to his/her chest and press.
  • Bar is pressed upwards to straight arm’s length and held motionless until the audible command "RACK" is given.

Deadlift


  • Rep starts with athlete in traditional stance (No Sumo)
  • Once the lift has started you must come to full hip extension and legs straight
  • You must control the weight on decent
  • No straps can be used but belt and wraps are allowed. NO SUMO!
