About this event

Who is the event for?

This event is for patients, carers and members of the public who contribute to our research. For example, public co-applicants, members of trial management groups, members of steering committees or members of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) groups.

Why are we running this event?

The event is an opportunity for you to meet other patients, carers and members of the public who work on clinical trials. It’s also a chance for us to say thank you and to share experiences about working together on research.

What can I expect on the day?

Expect a relaxed day of food, discussions and networking.

  • Arrive any time between 10.00 and 10.30. Refreshments will be available on arrival with the main event starting at 10.30
  • To kick things off, our PPI Officer, Holly, will provide a welcome and introduction including a brief update on actions which have been taken since the last event.
  • Experiences of PPI in action – We have invited public contributors and LICTR staff to share experiences about public involvement in our research. We will also have the opportunity to discuss these examples and share our own experiences.
  • Networking session - An informal lunch and time to chat to other attendees.
  • Working Well Together to Manage Research Projects - Explore how public contributors and researchers work together in Trial Management Groups, discuss common challenges, and share ideas to make meetings more inclusive.
  • What does PPI look like in large national organisations like the National Institute for Health and Care Research and Cancer Research UK.
  • A full agenda and session timings will be sent to you ahead of the event. Sessions will finish by 3.35pm, with time to stay and chat until 4.00pm if you wish.

What support is provided?

Please let us know if you have any communication, access, dietary or other support needs. If needed, we can arrange for a member of staff to contact you before the event, to talk about support. Please let us know if you need to attend with a carer or support worker. The venue is fully accessible, with plenty of parking.
