Description

Welcome to the 2018 MN Halloween Spooktacular. The Spooktacular was created by a MN in-home licensed childcare provider out of a desire to help other providers publically promote and raise funds for their business through a family friendly decorated home tour and fundraising activity event. Let's face it, advertising our business can be challenging. We all put our name "out there" by telling people on a business website, or through Facebook or Twitter, we might hang some flyers on community bulletin boards, or post our openings on various social media sites. We then sit back and wait. We hope someone answers our ad to fill the preschool spots age 2+ at we have and we don't get inquiries only about infant care. We wonder, did I list my information on the right site that "everyone" is using now? We pray that the bad childcare news story last night or the citation received by licensing for prickly grass doesn't scare parents away. We block out our precious free time for interviews after working a 60 our week. We vent maybe even swear when the interview time comes and goes with no knock on the door. We worry because when an interview actually does happen and goes great the family chooses someone else. We're scared that we won't be able to put food on the table, gas in the car or pay the bills. This is our reality. What if there was a better way?

Advertising for business means "in your face". Companies design and advertise so their product comes to mind when you have a need for it. Think of the most popular brands, everything from soda to laundry detergent to fast food. Your thirsty, what do you think about? That's brand recognition. The problem with childcare advertising is the only brand recognition we've been getting has been driven by everyone else. Think about the negative news reports, DHS, public perception and government. And it doesn't look good. Childcare openings come and go sporadically so we dont spend the time, money and energy advertising all the time. But if your name isn't out there when people need care they won't know how to find you. When someone needs childcare what do you think comes to their mind? Probably not your childcare, at least not yet. They are thinking, where do I find a good childcare? And they go to all the places we hope we've advertised. If your lucky and the stars align you might get a good fit this opening. What if a good fit doesn't show up? Your left taking any family because there is no guarantee another interview will come and you have to make ends meet. That decision can be disastrous. You dream about the myth in childcare that some providers actually have waiting lists. You think, they must constantly advertise. Besides constant advertising there is another way to create brand recognition. A memorable event. Unfortunately most business branded memorable events are unexpected and negative. Think McDonalds hot coffee lawsuit. We don't want any more negative. So how about a crazy idea? Minnesota licensed childcare providers coming together for one night to drive the conversation about childcare. MN Halloween Spooktacular is a advertising platform for childcare providers intentionally designed to promote individual childcare businesses through a memorable event. The event is a Halloween decorated house contest, public tour and fundraising opportunity that brings childcare providers across the state together to showcase their individually decorated childcare home for public display and voting. Literally, Spooktacular will bring your desired clientel (families with kids) right to your front door. Allowing you to Wow them with a fabulous display while marketing yourself and your business so when they need childcare they will think of you And your awesome house.

How it works: Simply purchase a ticket to participate. Then start planning how you want to decorate and promote your childcare home along with optional fundraising activities. Marketing for the MN Halloween Spooktacular will be done for you. This event will allow you to create brand recognition, promote your business to your target audience, fundraise for your business needs and give you a chance to win prizes. Even if you don't have current openings you will have openings in the future and this is a great way to get your name out there to parents. Imagine getting the chance to impress with parents wanting to know more and asking to be contacted when you have an opening. Simply decorate your house inside and out and be prepared to open your doors during the Spooktacular tour to parents and kids looking for a low cost, fun activity during Halloween. Crazy idea? Have you ever toured holiday lights at Christmas? It's a thing and big. The event itself is free to the public which will have parents going nuts. Once you have a ticket your name and address will be added to the Spooktacular tour list for your community. Mn Halloween Spooktacular will advertise like everything to drive our event into a frenzy like the build a bear pay your age event. Remember hours of waiting and turning people away. Really? They didn't know the public response would be so overwhelming? Give me a break! My guess is they may have underestimated the interest but clearly we're driving the bus on a campaign that put their brand back into public view. On Sunday, October 28 at 3:30pm the tour begins. Its not unrealistic to anticipate hundreds of people turning out to look at the houses during this free to the public event. In person and online voting of all houses participating will be open during the tour with the winners being announced on October 31, 2018. Amazing right? But that's not all. Are you interested in raising money for your childcare business? Maybe you wish you could afford new playground equipment, a bigger vehicle or something else. This is the perfect time to plan an in-house fundraiser for your childcare. The tour may be free but the public announcement will include language that promotes low cost activities and the fundraising efforts. Be creative. If it's fun parents will let their kids participate. You could incorporate a fundraising idea into your decorating plan. You could charge for kids to make and take a simple craft, dunk the monster (your husband dressed up) in a dunk tank, turn your yard into a not so scary haunted house or sell child related homemade crafts. You're only limited by your imagination. A sponsored event raffle item that parents can sign up to win will be provided as an incentive for parents to drop their name and number in a box at your house so you can follow up with those who toured and are interested in your business later. And to get families in the house so they can see what you have to offer you can choose to participate in "The Gone Batty" event where each child will receive a sheet and will have to find a bat hidden somewhere inside your house to get a stamp or sticker when found. You can choose how much of your house to open and whether to give an additional rewards such as tattoos, stickers or treats. throughout the tour always promote your business, show what makes you stand out. Do you serve only organic have a table with your information and organic foods available, pass out your business card, have postcards made. Sneak in fun ways to promote your business. If you create a memorable experience you WILL create brand recognition. You house will be thought of (in all it's decorated glory) the next time someone needs childcare.

A big event means an opportunity. Don't pass up this opportunity.

License checks will be done to assure all registered participants are licensed childcare providers in Minnesota. The Spooktacular event aims to showcase MN Licensed In-home childcare providers as caring professionals. It is recommended that you do not care for childcare kids during the event. We ask that you rally your "tribe" of family, childcare families and friends to help with the event.

We ask that you please keep in mind your audience: the general public, families, parents grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors, friends with kids. When decorating, safety must come first for your guests, yourself and your property. Have people you trust available to run games, answer questions, or supervise vulnerable areas of your home/property to prevent strangers from wandering. Display family friendly decor. Decor or events that are distasteful, political, gruesome, sexual or offensive in nature are strictly prohibited from the Spooktacular Event as it does not represent the values of childcare or promote a positive image for Minnesota Licensed Childcare Providers.

We are seeking Spooktacular sponsors who we would like to promote as supporting in-home childcare providers in exchange for raffle items, coupons or advertising that will benefit registered providers. If you know someone that would be interested in being a sponsor please have them contact Kim Mueller.

We all understand there is a growing childcare crisis and that this job is getting more and more difficult. The perception of in-home providers and community support is very important in keeping providers from leaving the profession. The 2018 Spooktacular event will set aside a portion of all registrations paid to give back as a monetary gift to a licensed in-home childcare provider who has gone above and beyond in helping make this profession better for all of us. Nominations will be accepted starting October 1, 2018 with voting being done online by registered providers in November of 2018.

Press releases and public advertising for this event will start early September 2018. By buying a ticket for this event you understand that Kim Mueller is a fellow licensed childcare provider and is the sole owner and coordinator of the MN Licensed In-Home Childcare Spooktacular Event and does not receive money from individual childcare business fundraising efforts. Taxes for prizes won and individual childcare provider fundraising efforts will be the responsibility of each provider. Kim Mueller will not be held liable for any injury or damage that may arise from participating in this event.
