Event description
A four-part online workshop to introduce fundamentals of data and computing skills to people working in libraries.

About this event

These workshops will meet over the course of four Thursday mornings (Nov 12, Nov 19, Dec 3, and Dec 10). Please only register if you can attend all four sessions!

Our goal is to empower library staff to use computation and data in their own work and to be advocates for efficient, effective and reproducible data and software practices. Specifically, our lessons include an introduction to data (tidy data), the UNIX Shell, OpenRefine, and Git/GitHub. The lessons are intended for beginners, and will be hands-on:

  • Tidy data - Thursday, Nov 12, 9am-noon (CST)
  • OpenRefine - Thursday, Nov 19, 9am-noon (CST)
  • Unix shell - Thursday, Dec 3, 9am-noon (CST)
  • Git/GitHub - Thursday, Dec 10, 9am-noon (CST)
