Event description

Description

Liberty To Go To See is our award winning dramatic event that explores the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by showing the paradoxes of racial discrimination, class divisions, gender roles, and the struggle for freedom. Based on research from the Chew Family Papers and narrated by James Smith, a free African American servant, audiences will have the opportunity to view episodes of daily life between the Chew Family and their indentured and enslaved workers from the 1760s through the 1860s.

Due to the intimate nature of Liberty To Go To See, audiences are limited to 20 people. Before the dramatic event, audiences will gather in our Carriage House for activities and will follow James Smith through our Main House. This play is not recommended for children 12 years and under.

Liberty To Go To See is presented with support from The Haley Foundation.
