KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Stu Maddux, Award-winning Filmmaker
Stu Maddux will present Social Isolation, Loneliness and Resilience in LGBTQ Older Adults.
Loneliness and isolation are being called the other hidden epidemics during the COVID era. Maddux will discuss his very timely documentary, All The Lonely People, which shares first-hand accounts of LGBTQ adults who have been featured in the documentary and have triumphed over the challenges of feeling alone. In addition, Maddux will highlight social engagement strategies that have helped people around the world reach out and connect.
Stu identifies both as an LGBTQ person and also as part of the epidemic of loneliness and isolation, and so he had a secondary goal that was very personal: discover how LGBTQ aging folks like himself are staying resilient during this time. Their answers have provided ways forward for his own life. The revelations were at times intensely personal but not uncommon to many older LGBTQ people.
In these “interesting times” that ask us all to be resilient, Maddux’s film and perspective are equally compelling and hopeful.
