LGBTQ 101: Welcoming LGBTQ People Into Recovery

Learning Objectives: At the end of the presentation, providers will be able to understand basic terminology, language and concepts of LGBTQ people’s experiences and the importance of affirming the recipient’s sexual orientation and gender identity; distinguish between biological sex, gender identity and sexual orientation; incorporate basic knowledge of LGBTQ issues, concepts, and concerns into their current professional work, and extend their skill set and clinical experience to their work with LGBTQ people; and be able to refer LGBTQ clients to culturally competent and affirming services.

The provider training is designed for social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, case managers, CASACs, mental health counselors, outreach and intake workers, peer specialists, and other health and human services providers

This training is more discussion than lecture and contains interactive exercises as well as a video presentation. Ample time is allotted for questions and case discussion.
