Event description

Description

Join us for the launch of a hands-on, two-day workshop exploring sourdough bread from starter to bake with one of the most exciting young bakers in Chicago, Ursula Siker of #AllMyFriendsAreBread, Hoosier Mama Pie, and Jeff & Judes. The workshop will offer an in-depth overview of sourdough principles, starter care, shaping and baking, as well as explore two additional yeasted breads (challah and savory filled dough). Students will also learn other uses for their sourdough starter through a cooking with discard demo.

*Please note: This is a 2-Day Workshop, all participants will need to attend both sections for complete class and production. Saturday (6/29) 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm; and Sunday (6/30) 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm!

About Ursula Siker:

Ursula Siker began her culinary career 8 years ago in Los Angeles after posting a photo of homemade cakes to her Instagram, followed by lying about her skillset in a job interview. She went on to spent three years as the head baker of Follow Your Heart’s Rising Hearts Bakery, where she developed vegan/gluten free baked goods for a national market. In 2016, she decided to delve deeper into traditional pastry and moved to Chicago to become the head baker of Hoosier Mama Pie Company. Ursula currently continues her craft of bread baking through Jeff & Judes events while also handing out loaves weekly in exchange for donations to charity.

Ursula is the recipient of the 2015 Top 10 Bread Bakers in North America by Dessert Professional Magazine and has been featured in ABC 7, Bake Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Chicagoist, Eater, Good Day Chicago, TimeOut, and Zagat.

About Jeff & Judes:

Jeff & Judes is a Southern Comfort Jew-ish Deli named for Ursula’s parents, Jeff & Judy Siker, which reflects the foods of her childhood. With a focus on seasonality and local farmers, she aims to bring her favorite aspects of both cuisines to Chicago. Jeff & Judes has done pop-ups at Crown Liquors, Best Intentions, and is continuing with collaborations and other full-service events throughout the summer.
