Recognized as one of the nation's best public gardens, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, VA, invites you to explore more than 50 acres of themed gardens, including a Conservatory and Children's Garden; enjoy exciting events, and experience great shopping and dining. The Garden is open daily 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with some extended summer hours. Eventbrite tickets purchased through this page are good any day now through January 5, 2020 (does not include Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights).


Your regular daily admission ticket includes most special events! These include M&T Bank Butterflies LIVE!, The Art of Play, Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks, Flowers After 5, Fidos After 5, and more. Admission also includes WaterPlay and drop-in programs in the Children's Garden. For a full list of events, see our Long-Range Calendar.


If you plan to visit more than once a year, becoming a Garden Member may be your best value.


The Garden is open rain or shine and closed only for severe inclement weather (no refunds). Any weather-related closings are posted on the website and Facebook.

1. Print your Eventbrite ticket or pull up the QR code of your ticket on your smartphone.

2. Come to the Visitors Center and show ticket at the admissions desk for check-in.*

3. After check-in, you're good to go! Admissions will hand you a sticker and you can proceed to the gardens.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you're visiting during high-volume times, there may be a line at the admissions desk.

The Art of Play promises moments of joy, whimsy, and enchantment as Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s 50 acres of cultivated landscape, come alive with art exploring how playful interactions can create connection and conversation. Six new playful artistic works debut!

M&T Bank Butterflies LIVE!, April 12 – October 14, 2019

Experience the wonderful world of butterflies! Butterflies LIVE! is an indoor exhibit in the Conservatory and is geared for all ages. Get up close and personal as hundreds of tropical butterflies feed, flutter and take flight all around you. Explore their origins, preferred habitats and life-cycles

The Garden’s celebration of spring! Events throughout the season include Butterflies LIVE!, Mother’s Day Weekend, Spring PlantFest (formerly Spring Plant Sale) and plant shows and activities in the Children’s Garden.

Mother’s Day Weekend, May 11-12, 2019

A weekend with many opportunities to honor and spend time with mom. Enjoy the popular Butterflies LIVE! exhibit, shopping, and dining, plus on Saturday treat your mom to an experience she’ll love, give her a tour of A Million Blooms. Sunday is the popular Mother’s Day concert (1 – 4 p.m.) Activities in the Children’s Garden include “make-and-takes” for mom (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

National Public Gardens Week, May 13-19, 2019

A celebration with activities for the whole family, including grand pianos in the garden and special performances.

Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks, June 29 – September 22, 2019

The wildly popular Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks returns with new sculptures as part of The Art of Play. Created with half-a-million LEGO bricks, the award-winning exhibit by New York artist Sean Kenney will feature 24 sculptures in 13 displays throughout the Garden.

Flowers After 5 (June through mid-September)

Relax on summer evenings; stroll through the gardens; enjoy live music, wine and beer, dining and shopping.

Fidos After 5 (The second and fourth Thursdays of each month, June through mid-September).

The Garden partners with the Richmond SPCA and leashed pets are allowed during Flowers After 5 on these special nights only.

Father’s Day Weekend, June 15 & 16, 2019

Enjoy a weekend of opportunities to honor and spend time with dad. Visit the popular Butterflies LIVE! exhibit, plus these activities: On Saturday, have fun with crafts and activities in the Children’s Garden. On Sunday, enjoy a free concert.

Goblins & Gourds, October 20, 2019

Harvest celebration with live music, pumpkin decorating, good green fun in the Children’s Garden.

OktoberFest, October 26, 2019

Live music, local food, and beer for purchase; games and prizes.
