About Conservationists of Color
Our mission is to create safe spaces for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) conservationists to reconnect to the environment, to each other, and to their inherent right to exist free from the harmful impacts of oppression in all its forms. Our network extends far beyond land trusts and agricultural conservation organizations. Our members work in all aspects of conservation, including environment and climate, wildlife, oceans and waterways, energy, forestry, farming, ecotourism, professional associations, and more.
Our Values:
Collective Liberation: We believe in the radical liberation of
the collective global conscience from the artifacts, tools, and
practices of white supremacy, specifically as they manifest
in the conservation methods and organizations in which we
work.
Community: Our belief that liberation is collective means that
it must be done in community. We create spaces for deep
and lasting connection, healing, and radical support with
and for BIPOC conservationists. We invite our colleagues to
bear witness in allyship.
Planet & Environment: We encourage the inclusion of BIPOC
communities as active leaders in the protection of air, water,
land, and wildlife.
Racial Equity and Racial Justice: Our work centers on
principles of equity and justice as they relate to the racialized
experiences of BIPOC professionals in conversation. As
primary drivers of our work, we invest in programming that
will advance these principles in the lived experiences of
equity and justice in our members and their communities.
