Event description

With theatre, TV, and film demanding ever more nudity and sexual content, how do actors, directors, and movement directors work to serve the production, and support the actor?

With the #Metoo and #Times up movement, codes of conduct are being established by productions for theatre and film. As part of this positive and much needed change, the industry is now embracing Intimacy Coordination as best practice when working with intimacy, simulated sex, and nudity.

The Intimacy On Set guidelines invite open communication and transparency, putting in place a structure that allows agreement and consent of touch, and a process through which intimate content can be choreographed safely.

This six day intensive training is for practitioners who have already completed Level One workshop and now wish to pursue the beginner’s training in Intimacy Coordination as set out below.

  • Workshop Pedagogy focused on teaching staff and students in drama schools, and industry practitioners such as actors, directors and movement directors;

  • Intimacy Coordination for theatre;

  • Intimacy Coordination on set for film and tv;

  • Establishing Health & Safety guidelines:

  • awareness and self care,

  • trigger points,

  • resourcing and referring on for further support,

  • LGBTQ,

  • Working with Children.

Applicants will be asked to provide the following:

  • date of Level One attendance;

  • a recent CV;

  • covering letter stating:

- Skills you feel you can bring to Intimacy Coordination training?
- Your inspiration from what you've learnt from Level One workshop?
- Plans/goals as an accredited Intimacy Coordinator - where would you want to take this to?

To successfully qualify as an accredited intimacy Coordinator, graduating from Intimacy on Set Ltd involves a four step process outlined below.

Level One: Two day Introductory weekend workshop exploring IOS guidelines. On completion of Level One, the two day introductory weekend, (or, if attended prior to May 2019, the 1 day workshop held during 2017-19), participants interested in training in Intimacy Coordination can apply for further training onto Level Two.

Applicants will be asked to submit a CV and a covering letter stating their experience of intimate scenes, what they wish to get out of the training and what they bring to the role of the Intimacy Coordinator. Successful practitioners will be offered a place on the Level Two.

Level Two: Six days beginner's course entails intensive Intimacy Coordinator's training that covers teaching the guidelines, and Intimacy Coordination for theatre and film.

Level Three: Successful participants will be invited to engage in Continuous Practice and Development (CPD) for a minimum of 6-12 months, implementing the knowledge and skilIls gained from Level Two. Intimacy on Set will assess participants' suitability for the Level Four against their CPD experience through mentoring and ongoing guidance.

Level Four: Successful Level Three candidates will participate in an advanced course that builds on their practical experience, consolidating the training and implementation of Intimacy coordination through to assessment.

At the end of Level Four assessment, successful participants will receive an Intimacy on Set Accreditation.

Intimacy on Set is excited to be shaping the future of the creative industry by developing the next generation of Intimacy Coordinators. We look forward to embarking on this journey together and to welcoming you all on the day! - Ita O’Brien
