Event description

Description

With theatre, TV, and film demanding ever more nudity and sexual content, how do actors, directors, and movement directors work to serve the production, and support the actor?

This is a two day workshop for trained/working professional actors, directors, and movement directors interested in exploring clear guidelines when working with intimacy and scenes with sexual content.

WORKSHOP DETAILS
We will explore the ethics of working with intimacy, from the auditioning process, contracts, rehearsals, through to performance or filming on set. We will role-play how and when to speak about the intimacy in a text or script with the director and actor. We will discuss agreements regarding nudity, including modesty patches and support from costume/wardrobe departments. We will look at creating a safe environment through the use of a ‘closed rehearsal room/set’.

  • We will sculpt moments of intimacy from scenes brought in by participants, putting into practice the Intimacy On Set Guidelines.

  • The actor and director will gain key insights into how to approach intimacy, simulated sex scenes and nudity for theatre, TV and film, empowering you with clear guidelines when approaching this work.

  • There will be no nakedness or nudity in this workshop;

  • You will be asked to conduct some research in preparation for the workshop;

  • Please bring notebooks and pens, and wear clothes in which you can move;

  • The workshop is based on Chapter 9 from Actor Movement, Expression of the Physical Being, A Movement Handbook for Actors, by Vanessa Ewan and Debbie Green, p 245-259, whose philosophy and practice were instrumental in developing these approaches.
