Lettuce Grow Markets Training Series: Vendor Recruitment

Iowa Valley RC&D and Northeast Iowa RC&D, in partnership with the Center for Energy and Environmental Education, are excited to announce the next installment of the Lettuce Grow Markets Training Series. This training will focus on Vendor Recruitment for farmers market managers.

Recruiting a diversity of vendors to your farmers market can be challenging, but has a direct impact on vendor sales, customer consistency, and the market experience. But how do you find the right vendors, explain the market opportunity, and answer their questions? How do you know what kind of vendors that are the most important vendors to seek out? What do the people who attend your market really want? What would draw in new customers?

This free, two-hour training will be led by entrepreneur Simeon Talley and experienced market manager and vendor Julie Grunklee and be held at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo, Iowa on February 19th from 10am-noon.

Simeon Talley is a social entrepreneur originally from Columbus, OH and now living in Iowa. He first came to Iowa to work in politics as part of the Obama 2008 caucus campaign. Currently he is the owner operator of The Makers Loft: Iowa City and Made In Iowa. Two retail stores that sells goods from Iowa makers and artisans from across the state.

Julie Grunklee is a registered nurse, entrepreneur, and has been active in local food work since 2001. She helped start the Black Hawk Farmers Market (2002), Grundy Center Farmers Market (2004), and the Cedar Falls Main Street Farmers Market (2006) and has been a produce vendor since 2002. She will speak about building a healthy market through vendor selection, how to identify customer needs, and successful surveying.

This training is open to all current or aspiring market managers and market vendors. You can join this training in-person or virtually. Please RSVP on Eventbrite (in-person attendees) or Zoom (virtual attendees).
