Students will be offered generative poetry exercises that will help them compose a handful of poems. They will leave class with exercises to encourage them to continue writing poetry.
This course is open to anyone interested in experimenting with language by writing poems. All levels of experience are welcomed, as the class will focus on the generation of poems and will therefore meet each student in his/her/their own place.
We will spend some time reading and discussing poems written by others to set an inspirational tone, then move into a set of generative exercises designed to get everyone's thoughts flowing and pens moving. These playful exercises will encourage experimentation and creative expression. Sharing the results of the exercises will be encouraged, but not required. Students will leave the class with a packet of poems by others, a few poems of their own, and hopefully, a newfound interest in exploring life through language.
