Event description
Let's Talk: Dr. Thomas Clyburn & Michele Parchment

About this Event

In 1954, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483, as a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, ruled that U.S. state laws establishing racially segregated public schools as unconstitutional, yet it took nine years for Sarasota High School to be integrated. Dr. Thomas Clyburn was one of two students to integrate the all-white institution. Dr. Clyburn will share his story about his experience during this period, and then he and the Museum’s Director of Public Engagement, Michele Parchment, will sit down in conversation to further unpack this complex period in our nation’s history relative to the state of the country today.
