Join us for a webcast with noted pediatrician Perri Klass, M.D., author of the New York Times column, "The Checkup." Perri will lead a conversation with prize-winning author Jean Ciborowski Fahey, publisher Jason Low of Lee & Low Books, and Rachel Honore, Family Navigator for Action for Early Learning at People’s Emergency Center. The group will discuss the role of children’s books in language development, the need for greater representation and cultural diversity in children’s literature, and the crucial role of parents and caregivers in early literacy and learning.

Perri is a Professor of Journalism and Pediatrics at New York University and the National Medical Director of Reach Out and Read, a national literacy organization that helps doctors and nurses to promote reading and conversation with young children.
Jean Ciborowski Fahey is the recently announced winner of the Early Childhood Book Challenge, a global competition to write a new and engaging children’s book with embedded lessons for adults on how to support early language development.
As a result of the contest led by OpenIDEO, Jean’s story I’ll Build You a Bookcase was chosen by the Selection Committee from more than 500 submissions from across the United States and around the world. Lee & Low Books will publish the story for release in 2020.
