Event description

Description

2018 will mark 35 years of local organising and activism on safer sex and sexual health sparked by the AIDS crisis.

With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the LGBT Foundation’s Let's Talk About Sex project seeks to document these campaigns by recording the personal testimonies of those involved and affected. The project will also result in an exhibit, showcasing the rich histories of activism around safer sex and sexual health as part of the city’s LGBT heritage.

In collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University’s RAH! programme, this event will provide a unique space to start conversations and share experiences, with some special guest speakers to get us going. The event is free, but booking is highly advised.

Guest Speakers:
Gerard Gudgion, co-founder of Healthy Gay Manchester
Phil Hutchinson, Manchester Metropolitan University
Paul Martin, LGBT Foundation
Priscilla Nkwenti, Black Health Agency

Programme:
7.30pm - Welcome and Introduction
7.40pm - 8.20pm Guest speakers and Q&A
8.30pm - 9.15pm Group discussions and feedback session
9.15pm - Closing and Reception

This night is part of a series of events that includes a special screening of United in Anger: A History of ACT UP directed by Jim Hubbard and Sarah Schulman, and introduced by former ACT UP activist and University of Manchester lecturer Dr Monica Pearl.
