June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month and Senior & Disability Services (S&DS) has put together a menu of free trainings for the community.

About this event

For Elder Abuse Awareness Month, S&DS Adult Protective Services (APS) team has scheduled trainings that are free for the public to attend every Tuesday in June 2021. You may chose to attend one, two, or all of the trainings listed below. If you are interested in attending, please register for the trainings and a Zoom link will be sent to you.

Week 1: Tuesday June 1st 230-330 PM Panel Discussion with APS Specialist Geoff Clark, JCPD chief Bob Morris, CAHOOTS RN Brenton Gicker

Panel Discussion: Geoff Clark with Adult Protective Services, Bob Morris, Chief, Junction City Police and Brenton Gicker, RN, CAHOOTS will discuss the multiple approaches to addressing elder abuse, the interaction and collaboration of their respective agencies and how you can report concerns of elder abuse.

Week 2: APS in a nutshell Tuesday June 8th 1-2PM by APS Specialists Jessica Justman and Deb Holloway.

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING: DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING: APS in a Nutshell: Jessica Justman, APS screener, and Deb Holloway, APS investigator, present an overview of Adult Protective Services including: eligibility criteria, scope of services, types of abuse, common elements of investigations, safety planning and much more. Participants will have a chance to engage with presenters on a mock case the participants “assign” and Deb walks through an Adult Protective Services investigation from start to finish.

Week 3: Self-neglect 101 Tuesday June 15th 11-12PM by APS Specialist Geoff Clark

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING: Self-Neglect 101: Many elders are supported by family through the aging process, but what happens if family lives across the country? Or if you have no family? How do you get help when conditions like dementia, stroke or brain injury cloud your mind to the point you don’t recognize the need for help? Geoff Clark with Adult Protective Services will present and answer questions about Self-Neglect, options for addressing concerns and steps to take now so you are successful in your aging process.

Week 4: APS nutshell Tuesday 22nd 530-630PM by APS Specialists Jessica Justman and Deb Holloway
