Description

Are you interested in reducing waste in your neighbourhood?

Join Green 11 for this free information night to learn about waste reduction efforts in Toronto and how neighbourhood groups are working with local businesses to reduce waste. This event will be a great opportunity to learn the do’s and don’ts of setting up a Bring-Your-Own-Container (BYOC) program in your neighbourhood.

Guest Speakers:

Emily Alfred, Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA) -

Emily Alfred is the Waste Campaigner at Toronto Environmental Alliance - continuing TEA's 30 years of advocacy for zero waste policies and programs in Toronto and Ontario. This includes community education, policy research and advocacy at both the municipal and provincial level.

TEA is currently campaigning for a reusables strategy for Toronto and advocating for municipal regulations to ban and restrict single-use foodware. As part of this effort, Emily has been working to support community and neighbourhood-based initiatives to reduce waste and promote reusables.

Laurna Germscheid, Green Wave West Reducing Waste Together Team Lead -

Since the spring of 2019, the Reducing Waste Together team of Green Wave West has been working with 4 BIAs between Ossington Ave. and Dufferin St. and have many businesses to date participating in their Bring Your Own Container sticker program.

Local Business Owners Participating in Green Wave West BYOC Program:

Liza Lukashevsky, co-owner Nuthouse

Bruno Pejlak, owner Strictly Bulk

Presentations will be followed by a Q & A with presenters and local business owners.

Admission is free.

Doors open at 6:40 pm for registration. There will be an opportunity to mingle and chat after the official discussion concludes at 8:30pm.
