Sessions description:

Create an architecture for web test automation
Automating tests on a web front end is not the most important level in the test automation pyramid, but it is critical from a user perspective. If it is not done with minimal architecture and good use of software engineering practices, we will have a lot of maintenance and abandonment of tests in this layer. A test architecture using Selenium WebDriver with the Page Object model; some design patterns; parallel execution for multiple browsers, using containers that can autoscale and support a large test suite; and putting all this together in a test pipeline may be a good strategy for smashing the bugs and maintaining the high quality of your application. Learn more in this session.

Test automation is like your girlfriend / boyfriend

Automation in testing is like a relationship in that there are many facets to it and it is complicated. This will become clear from a series of my experiences during my 20 years as a test automation architect and expert. Each experience will point out a number of topics to consider in a project, both things that went well and things that did not but all of them important. A comparison with human relationships will be made several times. In the end, we find a clear structure in all of it that helps ask the right questions in a project. As usual, it is a context that determines what the answers to the questions should be, but it starts with asking the right questions.

TDD in Test Automation

Test Driven Development or TDD is a continuous cycle of making a failing test, passing this test, and refactoring. This practice is used to make software in small increments. Once a developer advised me first to master a programming language, so for months I waited for a good opportunity to put TDD into practice. For my first test automation tasks I applied the principles of TDD. Those three steps in the cycle looked simple, but had more nuances than I had expected. Design patterns are useful in the right context. Looking back there were some real advantages like fast feedback, but also some drawbacks like lengthy refactorings.

About speakers:

Elias helps people and companies to deliver high-quality software not only through test automation but thinking about the quality since the earliest stages of the SDLC. He has been working in different segments as a QA Engineer giving, presentations, workshops and courses about test automation.
Recently he left Brazil to work in the Netherlands, where he acts as a Software Consultant at WAES.

Martin is an independent test automation architect with 20+ years of experience. He often sets up automated testing for an organisation (if it is complex or must be done right the first time) or improve existing automation efforts that are not generating sufficient business value. His unique specialty is that he has no specialty: Any branch, any technology (from web to embedded), any test tool (commercial, open source or both), any process (Agile / classic) and any phase in software development (from unit testing to full chain testing).

Han Toan Lim - is a Context Driven Tester who likes discovering the bugs you didn’t expect. Before that he had been a software developer for 5 years. When he’s not beating you at Catan, he writes about the industry at Mindfultester.com
