Event description
Profound Microfarms is expanding! With the help of our community, we're going to build out our last empty Greenhouse! "Barn Raising" Party!

About this Event

"A barn raising is a collective action of a community in which a barn for one of the members is built or rebuilt collectively by members of the community." - Wikipedia

***UPDATE*** The first dinner in November was a ton of fun!! We have an epic community that all pulled together, the event was over sold and we especially thank The Schnetzinger's for contributing and being a "Benefactor" of Profound Microfarms as well as our new partner Devil's River Whiskey for buying the naming rights to the new "Devil's River Whiskey River Greenhouse!!" See updated Chef List Below. If you already bought tickets you'll be automatically registered in this event. We did have a few people who were only able to attend the first event so we'll be opening up a few limited seats!

***BUILD UPDATE*** We've been working hard, we got the whole greenhouse emptied out, took off all the old material, we've shored up the existing frame, and ordered $18,000 in materials we are awaiting delivery of. We've made a few changes to our original plan and looks like we'll be about $6k over budget but we'll have a much more functional greenhouse to operate on the long term. Due to material delays and changes we'll be a bit behind schedule, we're hoping to have most of the structure complete before the next event but will not have the hydroponic systems up and running by that date.

Profound Microfarms has built out three of our four greenhouses. All that remains to be renovated on our little 2.6 acre farm is the last 3,000 sqft greenhouse. This last one will require about $25,000 to build it out the way we need to, to keep up with the demand of our **128** Chef customers. So far, we've built everything with the labor of our friends, community and awesome staff. The equipment has all been paid for with no loans, with original investment and bootstrapping working capital.

The $25,000 will go towards demolition of old infrastructure, purchase of new plastic, a new heater, running new electrical, new circulation fans, new end walls, running new water lines, new lights, installing air-blower and lines, adding rollup sidewalls and shade cloth, building hydro systems, and buying rafts. Total build time should be 42 days start to finish (provided we have materials ordered and on hand).

So, how can you get involved and help us?

We thought it would be awesome to kick-start this project with our community instead of getting a bank loan or taking investor money. We are inviting you to join us for before and after paid tours of the new greenhouse. This will include 2 free dinners and other goodies. The tours will be paired with tastings of many of the 150+ varieties of leafy greens, rare culinary herbs, edible flowers and microgreens that we grow. The dinners will be designed as sit down, 5-star, 5-course meals, featuring locally grown or raised products, prepared by 10 of Dallas' best Chefs!!!

The first tour and dinner we offered with Chef Josh Sutcliff and Seth Brammer got great coverage in the Dallas Morning News! The second tour and dinner we had celebrity Chef Curtis Stone fly in from LA to cook with Chef Toby Archibald and his staff of the upcoming Georgies Restaurant! All of the spots for the previous tours were filled with in days.

**To be clear, we can offer paid tours of our farm. After the paid tour, food and alcohol are offered free of charge for our new and old friends that attend this tour to enjoy.**

The first tour, the "before the build" will be held on Sunday, November 17th. The second tour, the "after buildout" is tentatively scheduled for February 23rd, 2020.

There are four ways you can support our latest expansion:

1. Come out and help on the farm! Free (or better, we'll provide the beer!) We have lots of work to do, including weeding the garden, spreading mulch, building systems, and working on the new greenhouse over the next month or two. Work dates to be announced soon. We'll also need a hand from some professional servers the nights of the tour. We could also probably use some help after the dinners to wash our collection of vintage china, flat ware, and glasses.

2. Join us for the Farm Tour. $175 - includes a free Farm to Table dinner! For the 2nd dinner we'll also enjoy a 5 course menu by Chefs: Peja Krstic of Mot Hai Ba, Adam West of Local Yocal BBQ & Grill, Andrea Shackleford of Harvest Seasonal Kitchen, Robert Lyford of Patina Green and Matt McAllister of Homewood!! The first dinner featured 5 chefs, including Chef Eric Freidline of Sevy's, Chef Anastasia Pittman of José, Chef Josh Sutcliff of Sutcliff and Brammer Hospitality, Chef Steve McHugh of Imoto, and Chef Robert Baloga of Lucia and was EPIC!!! Each chef will create a course and most of what will be served will be locally sourced from our farm or one of our farm partners. We'll tour the farm, taste many of our rare culinary herbs, edible flowers and goodies, then we'll be seated at a long table in the greenhouse for a candle lit dinner. We'll have cocktails, we'll have wine pairings, we'll have after dinner drinks. Devil's River Whiskey will craft up some of the tastiest, herbaceous cocktails you've ever had!

3. VIP Greenhouse Experience. $300 (AKA Profound Patron) - includes everything from option two PLUS: $150 credit for Profound Microfarms produce over the next 3 months. We've never sold to the public before. You'll have access to pick up the freshest produce available between the dinners at wholesale restaurant prices! We'll also include a cooking class by our own on farm Chefs - to be scheduled! We'll include 6 jars of Profound Pickled/Canned/Preserved products, we'll be trialing out a new line of retail value added goods and you'll be the first to try them. We'll include a dozen bottled beers that we brew on the farm! And a few other things as we think of them!

4. Sponsor a farmer. $125 - If you can't attend the dinner but would like to contribute, you can sponsor a farmer to participate in this experience! With your contribution of $125, we'll invite a local farmer to join in our event. Farming is tough, the perks are few, the hours are insane, and farmers work tirelessly to put food on our tables. This is a great way to say thank you to your local farmers while supporting our little farm.

5. Ok, I know I said there were 4 ways to support us, but there's a fifth. Benefactor. $5,000 - Will get everything in option 2 & 3, AND you'll also get a private tour for you and 7 friends when ever you'd like to schedule it. We'll have our own Profound Chefs, Bui, and Dylan prepare a farm to table dinner for you with Profound brewed beer and paired wines! You'll get to pick up as much of our produce as your family can use in the next 4 months at no cost! We'll brew you a keg of beer for your next party! We'll have a plaque made with your name on it at the entrance to the greenhouse. We'll be forever in your debt. This is a great option for corporate sponsorships, like-minded business owners with similar audiences. We've had about 3000 people tour our farm in the last few years, Chefs and cooks, children's groups, and people interested in sustainable farming.

We feel #profoundlygrateful that you'd even read down this far... Building our farm has been a community effort since the beginning and we have no intention of slowing down the momentum. We started off 5 years ago this month, having never farmed before. We spent 3 years learning, taking classes, becoming a master gardener and a permaculturist, traveling the country visiting with the best farms in our industry. Our farm was literally built by people who believed in our mission and wanted a closer connection with their food. We've never asked anyone for money or taken any loans (other than owner-financing our property from the best people on earth, Gunter and Ute). Our goal is to give you so much value for your money that you'll think it's the best you've ever spent. Come join us on this journey.

PS - We are planning to document the whole process of this tour/dinner so that we can show other farmers alternative ways to finance projects on their farms. Who knows, maybe the next event we help host will be at one of our partner's farms to help them with an expansion project!
