Description

Let the rhythm set the tone is a FREE 2 and a half day workshop for young LGBTQ people (aged 16+) organised by centred. It will explore the question ‘what is a queer sound?’ We’ll explore LGBTQ history, record environmental sounds, explore important queer sites past and present and experiment with voice recording and creating our own beats using analogue and digital equipment.

Workshop 1, Thursday 15th February, 10am - 1pm

We will meet at the V&A Museum (Cromwell Road, main entrance) at 10am. Throughout this day we will explore the LGBTQ 'Out on Display' collection, including the Gran Fury Kissing piece.

Workshop 2, Thursday 22nd February, 10am - 4pm

We will meet at Vauxhall Station at 10am before heading to Gasworks Gallery

We will also complete some field Recording, go on a studio Visit, test equipment and produce some writing



Workshop 3, Wednesday 28th February, 10am - 5pm

Voice and beat recording at Red Bus Recording Studios

(34 Salisbury St, Marylebone, London NW8 8QE)

Participants will come prepared with texts to voice record and beats to lay down and engineer. A sound technician will support use of the equipment to help deliver a professional sound.
