Please join four speakers from the University of Rhode Island who will be presenting on current research related to: dietary patterns in preschoolers and children, incorporating critical thinking in higher education, and medical nutrition therapy for Parkinson’s disease. This event is free and Dietitians can earn 1.5 CPEUs.

"Snacking and Young Children" by Amy Moore MS - Snack foods account for nearly 27% of daily caloric intake in children. This presentation will cover current research related to trends in snack food intake, specifically energy-dense nutrient-poor snacks, and current snack food recommendations

"Are Children Who Attend Family Child-Care Homes Meeting Dietary Recommendations at Home?" by Noereem Mena MS RD LDN - This presentation will discuss current findings of an ongoing study assessing dietary behaviors of preschool-aged children attending family child care homes compared to current recommendations. The role of parent and child care providers in supporting the development of healthy dietary habits among children will also be discussed.

"Critical Thinking in Higher Education" by Jade White MS - This presentation will cover current research related to facilitating critical thinking in higher education. A critical thinking framework will be presented on how to encourage critical thinking skills using online modules focusing on protein sources and organic foods.

"Nutrition for Parkinson's Disease" by Dara LoBuono MS RD LDN - This presentation will cover current research related to the nutritional status and dietary quality for people living with Parkinson's disease, dietary recommendations, and the role of registered dietitians in the interdisciplinary care plan for people living with Parkinson's disease.
