Event Details

Riverside Public Utilities is partnering with Riverside Corona Resources Conservation District and the Janet Goeske Center to offer a free series of training classes to help you achieve More Color with Less Water. Learn how to manage your soil, program your irrigation controller properly, troubleshoot your irrigation system, convert traditional irrigation to drip and how to remove and replace your lawn with low water use plants. 

 

The educational series will be comprised of five classes each lasting for one and a half to two hours per class. The program is designed to give a comprehensive look at the major components of your landscaping. The classes are intended to complement each other but can be taken individually as well. 

 

Workshop Topics:

 

Soil/Plant/Water Relationships – Don’t Get Burned:

Oct 27 2018, from 9:30 to 11/11:30 - Kerwin Russell and Jose Iniguez

Will focus on the different types of soil textures and structures and how they affect plant growth and fruiting. The role of water in plant growth and how different types of fruiting, flowering and landscape plants use water.

 

Irrigation Timers and How to Program Them Before They Program You:

Dec 15 2018, from 9:30 to 11/11:30 - Kerwin Russell and Jose Iniguez

Will cover how to program and use most timers and compare digital and analog, hose timers and troubleshoot programming problems and how to determine how long to water and when.

 

Irrigation Troubleshooting and Maintenance – The Basics:

Feb 9 2019, from 9:30 to 11/11:30 - Kerwin Russell and Jose Iniguez

Checking and fixing all types of irrigation systems such as drip, micro, spray, rotor, impact and hand hose. Adjusting head arc, diameter, flow, checking pressure and how to fix basic head and riser leaks and breaks and how to check coverage.

 

Converting Traditional Irrigation to Drip/Micro in Three Easy Steps:

April 20 2019, from 9:30 to 11/11:30 - Kerwin Russell and Jose Iniguez

How to convert a basic spray or impact irrigation system to drip or micro for watering a new, low water or drought tolerant landscape…How to use drip irrigation 101.

 

Ditch Your Lawn – Using native, Low Water Use and Succulent Plants in Place of Turf:

June 15 2019, from 9:30 to 11:30 - Arlee Montalvo and guest speaker TBD

Learn how to remove and replace your lawn and install plants that use up to 50% less water or more. See different types of landscape designs and learn how to design your own water saving back or front yard.
