Less than Human? The ethics of our treatment of others.
Event Information
Description
Please join the Arcus Foundation for the latest in our series of 2013 Arcus Forums: a conversation with David Livingstone Smith, author of the award-winning 'Less Than Human', and Annette Lanjouw, VP of Arcus' Great Apes Program, author and primatologist.
The evening's conversation will explore how we demean and degrade other humans in order to traffic, enslave or attack them. It will also address how we ignore our dependence on other species and exploit nature for food, entertainment, medical research or other purposes.
These leading thinkers on human rights, and human and animal behavior will open up the conversation to a broad audience on what motivates us to treat others differently and how we can more ethically uphold respect for the rights and intrinsic value of species.
Participate in the discussion on Monday, September 30th at the New York Society for Ethical Culture (2 W 64th St, New York, NY 10025).
