Translating the impact of in-person support groups for LGBTQ youth to the digital space
There is clearly a need for safe and supportive spaces where LGBTQ+ youth can connect with one another and receive support without fear of experiencing bullying or harassment. Many LGBTQ centers across the country provide in-person services, including support groups for youth. But there are thousands of youth who can’t access these services due to distance, transportation obstacles, younger age, disability, fear, social anxiety, etc. The proposed Digital Support Center for LGBTQ+ youth aims to leverage young people’s current digital behavior while also expanding the support in-person centers can provide.
Teams should come up with ideas om how to scale the capacity of LGBTQ centers across the country by developing a safe and supportive digital experience for youth to join synchronous chat support groups facilitated by experienced youth serving professionals from multiple in-person centers across the country.
BlackRock: Socially Responsible Investing
Increasingly investors are considering the social impacts that companies make as they consider their investments. Socially responsible investing (SRI), or Social investment, also known as sustainable, socially conscious, "green" or ethical investing, is any investment strategy which seeks to consider both financial return and social good to bring about a social change. MSCI, a leading index provider, provides data on company level environment, social, and governance (ESG) risk and performance factors. MSCI ESG ratings are designed to provide more data with more context to support more informed decisions for the modern investor.
This project requires teams to take the fund level MSCI ESG metrics that BlackRock has for its funds to help investors make more informed decisions related to SRI. Use data visualizations and comparison features to inform decisions for investors.
BlackRock: Connecting our Allies!
BlackRock has a program for allies of our LGBTQ affinity group, The OUT Network, that serves as supporters and encouragers of the various goals of that group. The OUT network has been very successful in promoting diversity, inclusion, and a strong sense of community in our offices. The program relies on its participants and that those participants be visible and educated on issues of importance to the LGBTQ community.
This project asks teams to create a resource for affinity group allies. How can members find each other and connect? How can allies ensure that they are educated on all that is important to our LGBTQ colleagues? How can allies be visible and show their support? In general, how can allies help?
