Description

The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic Band
Henco Espag, Music Director

You’re invited to our 40th Anniversary Celebration!

On April 13th, 2019, the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Symphonic band will present Playing Out: 40 Years of Love and Joy at St. Bart’s Church in Manhattan. The evening will feature music from queer composers—many from New York City. Join us as we showcase lesbian poet Katherine Lee Bates’s America the Beautiful, celebrate Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday with Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and more. We’ll also embrace new music with two world premieres—the wind ensemble arrangement of trans composer Calenna Garbä’s orchestral work Fuga de Amore, and FANFARE XL composed specifically for this concert by local gay composer and longtime friend of the band, James Adler. We hope to see you there!

Leonard Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story"
Samuel Barber: Andante and Tranquillo (from First Symphony)
Julie Giroux: The Lion and the Mouse (from "A Symphony of Fables")
Aaron Copland: Hoe Down from "Rodeo"
Billy Strayhorn: Take the "A" Train
Rossano Galante: Resplendent Glory
James Adler: Fanfare XL (World premiere)
Calenna Garbä: Fuga de Amore (World premiere of band arrangement)
