Description

What is Drawing?

Leonardo da Vinci is the perfect example of an artist who saw the connections between art and design and invention, science and language, and who shows this in his drawings. Join us for these hands on sessions, which will allow you to use his work as inspiration.

Using Leonardo’s sketchbooks, on display in the gallery, as a starting point this session will explore the different meanings of drawing and the language that surrounds them. It will also look at both the historical and contemporary contexts of drawing and sketchbooks. It will examine our need to teach children visual literacy. During this session you will develop both drawing and mark making skills which you can then use back in the classroom. You will also learn how to make a mini zine and then create it in the style of Leonardo.

Suitable for all key stages and subject areas.

This CPD will be led by Susan Coles, an independent educator, critical friend, advisor, consultant, artist, and networker. Susan is a former President of National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD) and a current member of Council, and represents Europe on the world council of the International Society for Education through Art (InSEA). Susan is an Associate of The Big Draw and Secretary to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Art Education. Find out more www.artcrimes.org.uk Twitter @theartcriminal
