Event description

Description

Join us on the journey towards more compassionate schools. We invite you to be our guest at this event. This event is part of a monthly series of informal discussions for education professionals.

October's Topic:

Overcoming Empathy Fatigue

For whom:
Education Professionals (E.g.: Teachers, Counsellors, Administrators, Heads of Department, School Staff Developers)

Why should you attend:
Many schools experience:

  • Empathy fatigue among staff
  • Alarming levels of anxiety and depression
  • Teacher burnout
  • High levels of bullying
  • Lack of community engagement
  • Lack of perceived parental and community support
  • Lack of eagerness to learn
  • Lack of eagerness to care for one another
  • Relentless demands for academic results

Discussion points include:

  • Highlighting research understandings about "empathy burnout" versus the potential "warmth glow" of compassion
  • How do we battle with empathy fatigue?
  • How do we tend to ourselves as educators?
  • How do we achieve work-life balance?
  • Nurturing our compassion through the practice of imaging and drawing upon feelings for a "loved one"

Plus! Exercises on nurturing our compassion.

There are limited seats available for this event. Registration is on first-come-first basis.
