Description

A free event as part of Conny Art Festival, an exciting programme of exhibitions, workshops and events across Consett’s town centre.

As part of the Art Festival, Land of Oak & Iron will be hosting the launch of J W Fawcett’s book ‘Tales of Derwentdale’, with a talk by local author Val Scully and print making workshops with artist Shona Branigan. There will also be a small display from the Bewick Society.

Tales of Derwentdale Book Launch with Val Scully, 12.30pm – 1.30pm

Local legend J.W.Fawcett published Tales of Derwentdale in 1902, and Land of Oak & Iron brings you a beautiful new paperback edition, illustrated throughout with wonderful Thomas Bewick prints, and including a new biography of the author. This illustrated talk will introduce for the first time the extraordinary life and work of the Satley explorer, naturalist, historian and journalist who set down the myths and legends of the Consett area.

Wood Printing Workshops with Shona Branigan, 10am – 12pm & 2pm – 4pm

See the magic of making pictures through wood engraving and hand burnish your own prints directly from the surface of the Oak, the Yew and the Elm.

The talk and print workshops are free. Booking essential for the talk and book launch.
