As part of the Legal Geek ‘Disruptive Tech Meetup’ series, sponsored by Axiom, we are planning a Meetup to demystify ‘Blockchain WTF.

To improve our attendee rate for our meetup events and to allow us to provide drinks and food at this event we are introducing a small fee to attend. We are also offering a student/charity ticket, this discounted ticket is available to students & legal charities ONLY. You must register using a school/university or charity email address.

Speakers

We have TED talk style speakers from across the profession including:

Casey Kuhlman, CEO of Monax a blockchain-based platform for micro-contracting.



Prior to cofounding Monax, Casey was the head of legal information systems at the US Open Data Institute. A lawyer and international development practitioner for nearly a decade, Casey has worked extensively in the Horn of Africa, including co-founding the first law firm in Somaliland. Casey has also been a New York Times bestselling author, an infantry officer in the Marines, and is an avid participant in open source software development.

Tom Hingley, Commercial/IP Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer



Tom is a commercial and intellectual property associate based in Freshfields’ London corporate practice, with a keen interest in emerging legal issues surrounding fintech, blockchain and smart contracts. Tom speaks at conferences and contributes articles, commentary and video content to internal and external publications.

Richard Cohen, Senior Associate at Allen & Overy



Richard acts for both managers and issuers and specialises in straight-debt (Regulation S and Rule 144A standalone issues, LPNs, MTN programmes, CP, CDs), covered bonds and liability management transactions.. He combines his debt capital markets practice with a focus on fintech and blockchain advisory work in the context of the optimisation of securities issuance.

Richard recently assisted Nivaura to facilitate the issuance of the world’s first fully automated, cryptocurrecy –denominated bond that was also cleared, settled and registered on a public blockchain infrastructure.

As part of the FCA’s sandbox Richard also assisted Nivaura to facilitate the issuance of a sterling denominated bond where fiat currency was successfully tokenised on a public blockchain infrastructure.

Richard has spent time on secondment at a major investment bank and is a regular speaker at the Euromoney School of International Financial Law held at Oxford University.

Richard recently published a paper on blockchain and cryptocurrency – denominated issuances in IFLR
