If you're an artist and/or art collector interested in learning more about Intellectual Property and Estate Planning, this message is for you! Join us for a night of legal insight from Attorneys Mavis Gregg and Vedia Jones-Richardson as they present on copyright law and managing an artist's estate.

About the Panelists

Mavis Gragg is an attorney, art collector, and art enthusiast based in Durham, NC. A solo legal practitioner dealing with death and dirt, Mavis loves to mediate conversation between art and the art consumer. She believes this allows her to champion making art accessible and relatable to her community. Mavis got her start as a mediator of art in 2012 when she became a volunteer docent at the prestigious Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Now Mavis enjoys hosting art salons in the Bull City and art-seeing trips. Mavis also serves as a Member of the CAMnow advisory board at Contemporary Art Museum-Raleigh and a Member of Triangle Artworks + Law Committee.

Vedia Jones-Richardson is a principal attorney at Olive & Olive PA and heads the Trademark/Copyright Practice Group. She specializes in trademark, copyright, technology, marketing/promotions, entertainment and arts law. Vedia helps businesses and creatives to establish, protect and capitalize on their creative works. She earned a BFA in Desin at Howard University in 1978 and a JD at Georgetown University Law Center in 1982.

"Legal Aspects of Art" is the third workshop in "The WORK of Art," a 2017-18 series of professional development events for artists trying to make a living from their art. "The WORK of Art" is hosted by the Durham Art Guild's Member Services Committee, bringing expert-led content to DAG members and the greater arts communities.
