About this event
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 8:00AM to 4:00PM, at the Tipton Airport, Fort Meade, MD, Legacy Flight Academy™ (LFA) will partner with Project Management Institute, Southern Maryland Chapter to host Eyes Above the Horizon™, LFA's unique 1-day outreach, flight introduction program, for high school students. Check-in is from 8:00AM to 8:45AM. Students MUST be pre-registered and show up within the designated check-in window to be guaranteed admittance to the program.* Formal program activities will occur from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.
Eyes Above the Horizon™ is an outreach and flight orientation program designed to inspire youth to reach beyond their familiar circumstances and to consider pursuing careers in Aviation and STEM. In furtherance of this objective--and to remove financial barriers--LFA and its partners cover the $250 cost for individual student participation. Registration on Eventbrite and parental permission is all that is required in order to participate in Eyes Above the Horizon™!
This program provides youth from underserved and underrepresented communities with an opportunity to develop and foster an interest in aviation careers through flight introductions, mentorship, and immersion into the rich history and LEGACY of the Tuskegee Airmen. No previous aviation experience is necessary. Saturday’s activities include:
• An orientation flight in a single-engine airplane where students will actually fly an airplane
• Academic instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.)
• Lunch and a motivational speaker
• Mentorship from civilian, commercial, and military aviation role models
