LEEDS PEACE CONVENTION - CENTENARY LECTURE
The 3rd June 1917 was the occasion of a national convention in Leeds of all Britain’s left-wing parties to celebrate the February 1917 Russian Revolution that put Alexander Kerensky into power in place of the Tsar. In the words of Ralph Miliband it was “perhaps the most remarkable gathering of the period.”
The story of this huge gathering is part of socialist history and, particularly, a fascinating tale of Leeds politics of the period.
Michael Meadowcroft will be giving a lecture on the Peace Convention on its centenary day. Saturday, 3rd June, 1pm, at the Leeds Library.
