This year, we are holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Mill Hill Unitarian Chapel, City Square, in the centre of Leeds.
Doors to the AGM will open at 17:30, when coffee and tea will be available.
The AGM will start promptly at 18:00, and will last no longer than 30 minutes.
Fizzy drinks, ice cream, and veggie hot-dogs will all be provided from 18:30, free of charge.
At 19:00 we will settle down to watch Paddington: a delightful film about a Peruvian bear who comes to live in the UK*.
You don’t have to come to the AGM to come to the film (and vice versa), but we’d love it if you’d bring any children or young people you know to watch the film with us.
The film will last for just over 90 minutes, so we’ll be done by 20:45 at the latest. At this point, you’ll be welcome to stay for a discussion of the issues raised by the film, or to get home for an early night.
It's a completely free night out, and we'd love it if you'd join us.
*For those of you wanting a deeper analysis of the issues raised by Paddington from the point of view of an immigration lawyer, this article is very good indeed.
Do we have to come to the AGM to watch the film?
No, you can just come for the film and the refreshments, if you want. But we'll be busy with the AGM 18:00 - 18:30, so you'll have to bear with us
What age-group is Paddington suitable for?
It's a PG - so maybe not suitable for the tiniest of children. Here's the Parental Guidance notes to the film so you can make your own decision.
What are the parking options like?
Your parking options are here. Mill Hill is very well served by public transport. We'd love you to come by bus if you can.
Will there be a proper meal?
There will be cinema food - veggie hot dogs, ice cream, E-numbers. It's probably best to have some tea or a light snack before coming along. And if you're worried about the kids eating/drinking rubbish, we suggest you bring some healthier alternatives.
Will I need to print out and bring a ticket with me?
No, we're using Eventbrite to get an idea of how many people will be coming. But no, you won't need to print or show us your ticket.
Speaking of Eventbrite, why are we being asked to use this silly sign-up thing? - it's very annoying/confusing
Thankyou for your patience. Using technology like this saves our staff hours of time wading through emails and updating spreadhseets. The few minutes you spend filling this out are really appreciated, and make a significant contribution to keeping out costs down. It allows us to make things like the screening of Paddington and the food we lay on free, rather than having to make a charge. Thank you.
